Paragon Bridge Works loves to work with general contractors. In this project the client, who is developing some home building sites, wanted to do as much work as practical. The client knew a lot about wood and already had a contact to get his own pre-cast concrete blocks. Client also felt pretty comfortable installing the bridge himself but wasnt completely confident.
The solution: Paragon would supply the freshly painted bridge decks along with Paragon's bridge bearing kit (which adapts our bridges to just about any concrete abutment). In addition, Paragon installed post brackets for client to apply his own wooden handrail posts. Paragon also sent a few employees to the site during installation to help facilitate a smooth installation. Paragon offers "full installation" throughout the US, but in this case a basic "consultation" was sufficient and saved the client a lot of money. Paragon provides the leadership and the client provides the laborers. This set up works out pretty well but is generally only offered to general building contractors who have their own insurance policies.
The client added their own handrail materials, their own finished walkign surface (the decking that came on the bridge needed to be covered by a second layer of wood), their own pre-cast concrete blocks, and their own labor to put it all together.
Here are the details:
- Bridge deck:
- two sections 40' X 8' X 2'
- total of 40' X 16' X 2'
- HS20-44 (72,000 lb) load rating
- fresh coat of paint
- Abutments: Client supplied pre-cast blocks.
- Pedestrian guardrails: Post brackets designed and applied by Paragon. Everything else supplied and applied by client.
This project turned out really nice...and was an excellent value. Please check out the pictures and video below:
